Not to bust your bubble, but chickens smell. We owned chickens when I was little and all I really remember is that they were smelly, smelly creatures.

But I do love that hen house, it's so cool looking!

Oh, I know they smell. My mom lives across the street from a huge chicken farm. I'm from Lancaster County, remember? I'm very familiar with all the farm smells. :-)

I wonder if only 4 chickens would smell that horrific? Of course, I have to make sure I'm allowed to have them in whatever city I live in (word has it, according, to Sunset magazine, that lots of towns and cities in Cali allow chickens).

I know someone who owned on chicken (a pet) - it lived in yard and did not smell.

Ah, good to know, Martha. They would be pets. I do not plan to eat my chickens. Just their eggs, but I'm sure I'd consider them pets (the chickens, not the eggs). I'm not planning on running a farm here. Just some urban, organic living. :-)
